Plainview is a hamlet in the town of Oyster Bay as well as overlapping into the hamlet of Old Bethpage in the west central area of Long Island. Robert Williams purchased land in the area in 1695 while keeping the area a family community which was famous for cucumbers. After World War II, the area received a housing boom from those moving from the New York for a more suburban lifestyle.
The Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District serves the area with 4 elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. Plainview shares a water district, fire department, and library with Old Bethpage as well as the school district. The area has a variety of shopping adventures that can be found in the strip malls, drug stores, supermarkets, as well as fine dining.
The library may be one of the biggest attractions offering two conference rooms, an art gallery, a family center, and a 237 seat auditorium. Plainview is also home to several parks including Plainview-Old Bethpage Community Park offers recreational options for all ages. The park offers two pools, baseball fields, handball courts, tennis courts, and basketball courts.
